Purepower (Huntingdon) Ltd
Construction is now underway on the Huntingdon site for Purepower’s first Advanced Conversion Technology power plant, which is due for completion in late 2009. The power station will use around 20,000 – 30,000 tons of feedstock each year which will generate sufficient carbon neutral energy for 4,000 – 5,000 homes.
The feedstock for the Purepower process is mixed waste wood from the adjacent recycling plant which avoids transport costs and associated pollution. The power produced will be exported to the local grid system to minimise transmission losses.
Groundbreaking on the project took place in October 2008, and the civils work is now well under way. Testing of the pyrolysis plant has been completed, and this is being made ready for installation at the site.
Purepower will commissioning the project and will then operate the plant once commissioned. The plant is expected to be generating power to the grid before the end of the first quarter of 2010.
